The Old Library in King’s Lynn is a much‑loved historic landmark, a home to the town’s Library for 121 years. When the Library service outgrew the space, the building found new life with The Workshop team, who had spent six years operating from a pop‑up site in King’s Lynn.
Becoming the new custodians of the Old Library has been an honour, giving us the chance to uncover the building’s beauty; from its roof lanterns and turret room to its striking windows and intricate architectural details. It was designed to be admired, and we’re proud to continue that tradition.
Funded by a £5,000 grant from Andrew Carnegie, the building was designed by Herbert J. Green in a Victorian Gothic style with Arts and Crafts influences. This heritage feels especially meaningful to us as a charity dedicated to providing creative arts opportunities for the community – just as Carnegie intended when he invested in spaces that inspire learning, imagination and storytelling.
