Top up your mental health

This week is Mental Health Awareness Week, a topic close to everyone’s heart here at The Workshop.

From inclusion projects like our Creative Wellbeing sessions with The Purfleet Trust to our education and participation programmes – the arts make us better, inside and out.

Our team are sharing what they do to look after their mental health. Maybe you’ll be inspired to get creative too.

Natalie’s our Inclusion and Engagement manager. She says: “When I’m feeling stressed or overwhelmed, I love getting out in nature and walking. Sometimes I feel over-stimulated by noise and people, so it helps me to be quiet or enjoy the sound of the birds. We’re so lucky in Norfolk to have such amazing wild places on our doorstep.”

Megan, our Venue Manager, adds: “I look after my mental health by going out for a long walk with my dog or spending time in my art room creating something! Both allow me to take time to recharge and process my emotions.”

Sophie, our Arts Engagement Worker says: “My favourite things to do to help me recharge and look after my mental health are knitting and reading. Currently I’m working on a blanket to have in my reading room this winter, and audio-books mean I can do both at once!”

Our Participation Programme Manager Dan says: “I love my films and TV. So when I am feeling a bit overwhelmed I value escaping to the cinema, usually for a horror film. If I can’t get there, I still love unwinding at home with Doctor Who.”

You can follow everything we’re up to on Facebook, InstagramTwitter, and LinkedIn. Or sign up for our regular newsletter.
